I tried to renew my membership and it wouldn’t let me. I did the three-year thing last time so maybe that has something to with it. Please advise. Thanks.

      Aldara:

I nominate Jerry “Crazy Jerry” Schafroth for the important office of “Member-at-Large”. I realize that Crazy Jerry has been reluctant to burst onto the political scene, but now is the time. If Crazy Jerry doesn’t win this election, then it musta been rigged. This ad paid for by: PiratesforCrazyJerry (contact Slim about upcoming Crazy Jerry campaign events).

      Thank you,

I’m going to pick your brain on South Sauty Creek when I see you. I watched the video. See you at the MWC. Thanks again.

Thanks Dan. I’ve done that before too. I just figured that if I didn’t feel like paddling across the lake, I might just put in at the bible camp. I’m headed that way in a couple of weeks and I’ll see you around I’m sure. Have fun, be safe.

I suppose it would be rude for me to shower at this location.

      Hi Brian:

Same place, Ed’s Canoe, I’m pretty sure. Putting them together was easy because I had a big flat floor to work on.

Just got back from slalom nationals on the Blackfoot in MT.  Smaller turnout due to COVID probably.  No folks from Canada or down south.  Nice course with challenging offsets and starting at about gate 20 they socked it to ya.  Probably about 2500 cfs and fun.  Take care.

      Brian:

I bought a breakdown set of ash gunwales from the same guy and put them on a Royalex Howler and they worked great.  You save a bunch of money on shipping and once they are epoxied together and sanded (lots of sanding) you can hardly see the joints.  Glue was included but I used G-Flex instead.  Everything is marked, and pre-drilled (small wood screws hold the joints together until the epoxy sets…..screws included).  I ended up using some small clamps too.  No way I could get 15′ ash gunwales anywhere by me, but the breakdown set worked well.  I’d do it again.

Hi Dan.  I sent you an e-mail but not sure if you got it.  My phone here is not that good.  Try sending an e-mail to mikeandmacy@yahoo.com.  I have a couple of breakdown paddles that you can have.  They will fit in that storage compartment on your Shredder.  Take care man.

Yes sir, it is a good video.  I know it’s sort of long, but worth it (I think).  I hope more people view it.  Thanks.

I’m interested too.  If George doesn’t get this boat please contact me at mikeandmacy@yahoo. com.  I have a nephew in Tinley Park where you could drop off the boat.  I could send you a check.  Thanks.

      Dennis,

That’s Ray McLain (R.I.P.) of Wisconsin in the stern.  It appears he and his partner are 50-ing the gate, and I’m pretty sure Ray would like this picture to be gone.  Ray was a good guy, very competitive, and a mentor to me and a lot of other folks.  I paddled with him in the 80’s and the only time I ever saw him swim was with me in a C-2.  It’s one of my proudest paddling moments!  Thanks for posting this.

I was at the Wolf about three weeks ago. We did a three mile section ending at Gilmore’s Mistake several times.  The put-in is off County M, I think they call it Herb’s (you drive through a soybean field to get to the trail leading to the put-in…but it’s okay).  At around 500-600 cfs it’s a blast.  Some flat water, but not bad.  The surfing waves at Gilmore are really good.  The name of the bar at Gilmore’s has changed to “Crab & Jack’s” (I think). The section below that ends at Big Smokey Falls, I haven’t done in a really long time.  You can still get on there but I’m not currently sure how. Used to be you paid a fee to the tribe and they provided parking and a shuttle.  Peshtigo is a good choice.  The Menomonie R. has whitewater too.  Have fun.  The Grudgeville Bar (Langlade) has good food.  Food and beer are important in Wisconsin.  It’s a lovely area.

I have a some experience with this kind of stuff….back when I had a job and was a productive member of society.  I’d contact the EPA Region 7, Science and Technology Center (STC) in Kansas City.  Google it and you’ll get the contact info you need.  The lab director is the person I’d talk to.  Tell them what you’re seeing.  They may be willing to send you sample bottles, but typically samples like this have to be received in their lab within a certain time frame (like 24 – 30 hours).  That might be a problem.  They might just refer you to Missouri’s state lab, but EPA Region 7 could give you the name of a person there.  Good luck and stay upright.
