Kayaking Pool Classes

The MWA is very grateful and fortunate to have a partnership with the Mehlville School District’s Community Enrichment program.  Through this program, we are able to offer three levels of classes for our members and the community throughout the year.

Led by MWA’s certified instructors, participants will work on building fundamental skills indoors, in a warm pool. Skills include strokes, braces, and the roll, plus blending strokes for river maneuvers. Discussion will cover safety, gear, river running, and more.

Classes are limited and happen throughout the year.   If needed, kayak, paddle and spray skirt are available for a small, rental fee.

Whitewater Fundamentals

(Wednesdays 7:30pm-9:30pm)

Beginner class to teach the basics of whitewater kayaking, proper stroke techniques and safety.

Learning to Roll a Kayak

(Wednesdays 7:30pm-9:30pm)

This class focuses on roll instruction and roll practice for paddlers who are completely new to the concept or for those who want to fine-tine their technique.

Open Paddle Sessions (Jan-March)

(Wednesdays 7:30-9:30pm, Saturdays 3-5pm, Sundays 12-2pm)

Pool sessions are open pool time to practice your braces, rolls, strokes, rescues, and playboating moves during the Winter months, so paddlers are ready for the spring season.  Participants should not expect instruction and should bring their own boat & gear.
