Hi Mike, I thought that was Ray, I didn’t know he had passed. I don’t recognize the bow paddler. The dam has really took a beating.

I’ve been an open boater for over 25 years and I’m not sure what you are asking about.

Thanks for the updates Chris. On Upper Stouts we’ve been running the dam on the far right side pretty regularly, nice boof into an eddy.

Michelle and I have a Mad River Cascade that is perfect for what you are looking to do. You would be welcome to borrow it to see what you think. It is not as fast as a flat water canoe but is very maneuverable.

We’ve done at 14″ & it was fine.  There’ll be more than that tomorrow. I’m using a good 60″ canoe paddle, a little longer wouldn’t hurt but it’s what I have.

You’re gonna love it Kelly, Michelle and I were able to catch most of the eddies and surf most of the waves we do in our hard boats.

I would have no issues at all with taking a complete novice or two down the Saint at most sane levels.

Thanks, it was the lead in section before the drops that caused us to stop going. It was choke full of huge trees that completely blocked the stream.

How was the wood? There were only a handful of us that ran Pickle regularly back before the ice and wind storms filled the creek with downed trees. It is one of my favorite creek runs.

The Perfesser painted a gauge on the upstream, west pier of the 72 bridge over Stouts but I don’t remember what the numbers mean, maybe he will chime in. Really all you have to do is look at the rapids from the road and see if they look doable for you.

Since you are coming from Fredericktown if you turn off on Co Rd 535 and go look at the low water bridge that crosses Stouts and see if there is enough water to paddle over it there is enough to do Lower Stouts.
