The race coordination and volunteers were outstanding. BUT, the race program, which I didn’t even seen until i got home, was icing on the cake. Bling and Company did an outstanding job. What a great way to commemorate everyones hard work over the years. I read it cover to cover and then looked at all the photos again and again. The individual boater stories were also incredibly interesting. Well done by all.

Still can’t figure out why the video doesn’t show up instead of just the link. It used to work for me.

They are expensive as everyone knows. I bought a stohliquist. It is one of the lesser expensive ones on the market. $700-$800. I really like it. It has a relief zipper. Has kept me completely dry. I have used it for the last two years. Still in good shape.

Really great edit. The canyon is really an awesome place to paddle. I will be down there Mid March to paddle the Upper Two on down. Still don’t think I am ready for the Suicide Section. Too bad you guys didn’t get to Paddle Johnnies Creek. I would enjoy watching that video. I’m sure you would love it. Still don’t understand why more MWA folks don’t paddle there. It really is one of my favorites.

Here is some prior paddler history about TE from Mountain Buzz.
http://www.mountainbuzz.com/forums/f11/tennis-elbow-from-kayaking-advice-20861.html
It is really not the elbow that is of concern in paddling. It is the grip. When I paddle water with a lot of pucker
(like the Gauley) I definitely over grip (non-stop). That along with a stiff paddle puts tremendous strain on the tendons that control your grip. My elbow joint itself is unaffected. Its from gripping my paddle hard just like a tennis player grips a racket. That along with no formal strengthening of my grip previously other than using a keyboard (haha). I do lots of grip strengthening now, but am currently limited but how much pain is generated from the strengthening itself.See example below from Mountain Buzz.
DON’T go buy a bent shaft. It will not get rid of the problem. I have had tendonitis with both straight and bent shaft paddles. I’ve had it in both arms (at different times) with both straight and bent shafts. I am pretty sure the cause of mine has been the use of a stiff paddle, and maybe some overgripping. I’ve found the best method for dealing with the ailment is prevention through working opposing muscles (pushups, various forearm excercises, climbing, etc). The only time I’ve had the tendonitis pop up since adopting this has been after paddling 20+ days straight (which is unfortunately rare these days). And the only cure that I know of is rest. Although vitimin A before and after boating along with icing seems to help alot. But aside from repeating what everyone else has already said, my point is getting a bent shaft, from my experience will not alleviate the problem.

I was shocked when I heard this yesterday. I first met Gary when I shared a campsite with him, his new wife Sandy, and Lee Harmon and Brandon G. several years ago at the Nantahala. I have paddled with him many times. He was always a bright light, safe mind, and fun time on the river and off. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sandy and his family.

Not sure why this links don’t come up as full video. It has worked for me in the past. Here are the last two. The first is the Creek Route at Lost Paddle . Also called the Cheat route. From below you can see how huge the full drop is. Also is the full edit of my run down Sweet’s Falls. The line on the rapid was good but I blew my ferry across the river. Some fun commentary after the fact.

We are camping Friday through Sunday at Battle Run Campground. Running the lower on Saturday and 3 of us are running the up on Sunday with the rest running the lower. Those of us who are feeling good are going to paddle the marathon. Unfortunately I have a full vehicle already. You can text me at Three One 4-4 Two Two-54 zero Six for more info.

Perfesser. I wish I could join you. Loved paddling the UY and the Top Yough with the you on my virgin runs. Going to be paddling the Upper and Lower Gauley on Oct 1st and 2nd. You are welcome to join us. Some folks are going to paddle the lower G twice to minimize the pucker.
Anyone else is welcome to join us.
