Anyone here have any experience paddling in New Mexico?    Heading west for a few days after the races and interested in the Taos Box.

      Any insight appreciated.

You are in for a treat. We did it years ago at low water, and I’d say generally it is pool drop. One section is very technical with plenty of pin possibilities (I walked in a dancer- maybe not in a Nomad.) Several sieves.

The hike out was very sweaty

Don’t miss lower box= easy shuttle, 17 miles but the water cooks and fantastic scenery.

Rio Conejos is in  NM but an easy run. They are doing rio Hondo now if it is up (flows into L Box put-in.

There used to be a little coffee shop in N section of Tao where all kayakkers met and you could team up. We went thru there last year and it still exists (lots of boater cars parked there.
