Wednesday night Weekly Moving Water Training, spring 2025
04/02/2025 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Moving Water Training and Practice sessions. Wednesday evenings (rain or shine), 6:00 to 7:30 pm, April 2 through July 31, 2025 (no session 7/2nd). These sessions are held on the Meramec River at Hwy 141 in Valley Park, MO. Meeting location is Arnold Grove Trailhead. At 6:00 we will hit the water and paddle until 7:30, so arrive early to be ready.
Joe Sartori will lead (as long as he’s in town), with other ACA instructors and experienced volunteers helping (more welcome!). Bring your own boat and gear. Come once or every week. No need to pre-register. RSVP is appreciated.
If you are with Team River Runner and want TRR to bring you gear, you must contact them, stltrr@teamriverrunner.org.
To participate, you must do the following, and there will be no charge:
1. Membership – either…
- with your active ACA membership; or
- Veteran/Service members who has signed TRR’s 2025 Waiver.
2. Waiver – This waiver will need to be signed before you can participate: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/e/FEYcRoRnJYb92ySx2jFiy8/ Sign it once and you are good for all sessions you attend.
Details: We start at a spot in the river with no current, warming up with some sweep and forward stroke progressions, a little bow draw work, and then blending strokes.
Then with current, we practice peel-outs, ferries, and eddy turns.
Beginners welcome. If you are new to whitewater kayaking and have your sights set on the MWA clinic, this is perfect for you.
If you are not new to kayaking, these sessions can help you strengthen and refine your skills.
- You must come with all your own gear, including a whitewater helmet and airbags.
- If you are new to Joe (or the instructor in charge), be prepared to wet exit or attest to your wet exit skills.
- We can take up to ten participants. We have not had to turn anyone away yet. It is first come/first served. (Safety boaters do not count toward the ten participants).
ACA Instructors, let Joe know if you’re willing to teach a skill or an evening session. Joe is a superb instructor and can give you feedback (afterward) as you refine your teaching.
