Race set up & slalom clinic (for volunteers)

03/11/2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Help “run wires” for the 56th Annual Missouri Whitewater Championships (MWC)!  We will also paddle, drink a beer at the group campground, camp, and paddle the next day—all with your paddling pals. Saturday morning March 11th, please check in (sign a waiver) at 10:00 at the Millstream Gardens pavilion to string up the slalom gate wires.  No prior experience necessary with wires nor boating.
Bring wire cutters, pliers, a pocket knife, safety glasses, and leather gloves. If you have a pruner handy, please bring that as well. Wear sturdy shoes for being on the rocks. Plan to wear bright clothes so you are easily seen across the river.
If you are helping for the first time, we will coach you. We are grateful for your help!
If you are a returning helper and would like to work on river right or ferry string across the river, please let me (Joe) know ahead of time.
** Paddle clinic for volunteers on four or five gates. After we finish set up, there will be a free session for those who helped.  It will be after we grab lunch, hopefully around 1:00 pm
Evening gathering at the Silvermines Group Campground with complimentary camping and beer provided (for those who are age 21+) for all who helped.
Check out this MWC primer: https://vimeo.com/124411745, shot and edited by our very own John Neibling.
Also, if you are interested in being Course Designer for future races (no prior slalom experience required), please let me (Joe) know. Someone to shadow me would be great.
Please let me know if you have any questions. THANK YOU in advance!
