The MWA is excited to offer Wilderness First Aid in collaboration with instructor, Tom Burroughs.

      COURSE OPTIONS

      • WFA with CPR & AED – $200
      • WFA-Only – $170

      Dates: September 15th-17th
      Location: Current River State Park

In preparation for the Spring Clinic, the WFA course will fulfill your First Aid requirement before taking the L4 Whitewater Kayak Instructor course. For more information and to purchase the WFA course, follow this link to the MWA SHOP.

      Course Description

CPR & AED Certification Add On (Sept. 15)  Friday 7 pm to 9:30 pm.

CPR is also a required certification to pair with the WFA course. CPR certification is required for Level 4 ACA instructor certification, and WFA is strongly recommended. Both the WFA and CPR/AED certifications are valid for two years, so if a student was certified in CPR/AED one year ago or longer, it would be wise to combine both of the WFA and CPR courses at the Current River facility.

      Wilderness First Aid Certification (Sept. 16 & 17)  Saturday 8am – 6pm & Sunday 8am – 5pm

This two day course immerses participants in basic wilderness medicine procedures, preparing individuals to take immediate action when an outdoor activity doesn’t go as planned and 911 responders are hours away. Time is split between interactive classroom sessions and hands-on field scenarios to prepare participants and help them quickly develop basic backcountry medical care skills. The course focus is on patient assessment, stabilization and emergency treatment of issues such as hypothermia and snakebites, as well as understanding of when and how to attempt evacuation. Participants will emerge capable of calmly responding to a wide variety of emergency situations. This course will also add additional components related to water based injuries and specific approaches for treatment.
