PICNIC FLOAT INFO: We’re planning our group float to be on the Black River near Lesterville, MO on Saturday 12 Sept. Note – Lesterville is 45 minutes from Silvermines, and private access to put-ins & take-outs on the Black is somewhat limited.

To avoid the 2nd issue, we are going to work with Riversedge Campground https://riversedgeblackriver.com/floating/. They will take all of us and any private boats we are bringing to their put-in, 6 miles up-river from their campground. (Private vehicles are not allowed at their put-in.) So we won’t have to arrange any shuttles – just drive to the takeout, have our boats loaded on the trailer (with their help), get on the bus & float down to where our vehicles are parked. The portage fee for private boats is $15 for kayaks & $20 for canoes. They rent canoes for $46 (kayaks for $35), for those of us who need boats. They take credit cards & cash.

THE BUS LEAVES FOR THE PUT-IN AT 11:00 AM, so we need to be there between 10 & 10:15 am, meaning we need to have left Silvermines no later than 9:30 am.

PLAN TO WEAR A MASK WHILE ON THE SHUTTLE BUS!  Some liveries require this.

DIRECTIONS: West on 72 to Ironton/Arcadia, South on 21 to Lesterville. “Watch carefully as you need to take a RIGHT to stay on 21 South (just before the two giant smoke stacks). Turn LEFT at Lenny’s convenience store onto Peola Road (if you go into downtown Lesterville on 21 South you have gone too far). At stop sign take RIGHT and go over the Black River bridge. Continue about 1 mile until you come to the Riversedge entrance on the left hand side. If you go past Wilderness Lodge Resort, then you have gone too far again. Once you pull in to the campground, please check in at the main office.”

Will and I are planning to join the float tomorrow. We’ll meet everyone at Riversedge in the morning.
