I spent black Friday hiking the “quiet” side of the river.
starting at the millstream parking lot on hwy D, (2 miles from Silvermines camp on D)
trail to cat’s paw is in decent shape, average brush to the bluff above double drop,
heavier brush to Mudd creek, deer hunters(?) have made decent trail out to parking.
it follows a fence line at the very top of Mudd creek that runs straight along the south side of the private property in the middle of the conservation area. I picked up a LOT of their trash as I hiked out. Good trail, no outdoor ethics!!!
total time was 3.5 hours at a very casual pace.
the view of rapids(?) with no water and the colorful bluffs was worth the hike
My previous hiking has shown that a highly motivated person (think sunset or emergency) can get from either Cat’s paw or Mudd creek to the parking lot in 45 minutes or less
No snakes, no ticks, no mosquitoes, awesome weather- great way to spend a non-boating day.

my GPS failed, but I think the whole loop is under 7 miles -not to be considered an easy hike
