      If you are interested in participating in the organization & planning for next year’s race, or are one of those folks with an idea for how to do things better, please step up & volunteer for a position on the 2019 race committee.  Many on the race committee have been doing these jobs for awhile.  Some will likely continue.  But all of them would appreciate your help.

      And better yet, with the races coming up, this is your opportunity to shadow a race committee member, or get some mentoring – whatever it takes to help you feel comfortable with the job next year.  We also have lots of historical information about how to put a race together, and are working on consolidating that info into a “Race Director’s Handbook”.  So you will get plenty of help!

      Race Committee jobs (many currently shared, but don’t need to be) have both pre-race & race weekend elements.  There are also race weekend jobs we fill with volunteers.

      Race Director (with deputies as needed) lead the activity, make sure everything gets done
      Registrar interface with racers, bib assignment, scoring
      Volunteer Coordinator fill volunteer assignments for race weekend
      Safety Coordinator identify safety team & safety concerns
      Judging Coordinator fill judging assignments, coord with Sierra Club, identify judging locations
      Course Design design race course & coordinate race setup
      Downriver Coordinator direct the Downriver race [or entire Friday event]
      BoaterCross Coordinator direct the BoaterX race
      Timing & Scoring time race, integrate time & judge scores, print & post race results, hand out awards (need racer list & classes from Registrar)
      Volunteer Raffle/Donations contact organizations for donations, give out at raffle (Sun pm), send thank-yous
      Boat Raffle/Donations contact organizations for donations, give out at boat raffle (Sun pm), send thank-yous
      Raffle ticket/ registration forms print-mail get tickets/forms printed, update letters, update mail list, submit to printer
      Publicity & Media provide race info to media outlets, act as MWA media contact
      T-shirt Coordination (art director) productionize design, acquire t-shirts, prepare for distribution & sales (need racer list & sizes, volunteer lists & sizes)
      Award coordination order race medals, arrange for distribution, hand out at ceremonies
      Fredericktown Coordination arrange local services (concessions, porta-potty, dumpster, banquet, caterer, MDOC)
      ACA Coordination sanctioning & insurance paperwork, risk management plan & contacts, post-event report
      Radio Coordination maintain, charge, distribute & collect radios for scoring, judging, safety, others
      Equipment Manager maintain equipment in shed (& elsewhere), coordinate transportation to & from race
