2018 Race meeting 1/23 & important update

Update: we may have a coordinator identified for a Friday Downriver event!  Stay tuned.  More info to come after the Tuesday meeting.

Greetings –

We’ll have our long-promised race meeting on TUESDAY  23 January when I’m back in town.  (7 pm at the Olympia Taverna.)  Please attend if you can help organize the races this year, or just want to help out.

We are still planning on the race for the 3rd weekend (17-18) of March, and all the usual campgrounds, etc. are already reserved.

With our late start, we are planning on going “back to basics”.  This would mean our typical (pre-50th) race schedule, with the Downriver back on Saturday afternoon.  This is primarily because our race committee has had a lot of turnover and we don’t have anyone to do the extra work to make a Friday event happen.  Frankly, there has been some discussion about cancelling the race for 2018.

We realize the Friday event was fun last year, and most people wanted to repeat it for 2018.  We can still do it on Friday, but someone needs to step forward and organize the event, including safety & scoring volunteers, and any music and food at the takeout if you want.  (I do have a contact name from Jim & Doris for food at takeout).  Otherwise, it will be Saturday, before the race banquet.

Another thing that has fallen by the wayside this year, unfortunately, is the paddler/volunteer raffle.  Hopefully that’s not why everyone shows up at the races!  But we nobody volunteered to take over the position from the 2017 crew, so we are going to skip it this year.  Also, we are 1-2 months late already.   (But again, if someone wants to take a shot at this – all the info is available.)  We may still contact Ftown restaurants & businesses for coupons, etc.  Any one-on-one solicitation some of you all do will be appreciated.  We do have a kayak & canoe to raffle.

The race registration form is in work & hopefully will be open for registration soon.
