Over Labor Day weekend, Terry and I decided to go check out some dam release runs in New York; For years, I have heard good things about a handful of the runs that release in NY every fall, so we thought it was about time to go check em’ out. Terry and I left on a Wednesday night and headed northeast to meet up with Gina, Levi and a few others from the southeast.
Upon arriving, we found a great primitive creekside campsite nestled in the Adirondack mountains.
We paddled four new sections of river, with the Raquette River being my personal favorite.
The put in was at the base of a dam which made it feel like you were being shot out of a cannon. Downstream was a fun series of slides, technical moves and good ole fun! If you are ever in the area, the Moose, Beaver and Raquette rivers are worth checking out!
