First, there is an MWA meeting at Olympia on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7:00 p.m. See you there!

Second, some quick notes from the Nov. 12 meeting:

Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. at the Olympia.

      Officer reports

Treasurer’s report – An additional $118 came in since last meeting for boat rental at the pool class and from the picnic.

Secretary report – Eileen reported that the second Winter Paddling Clinic would be held at the Echo Bluff Lodge Dec. 30-31. Paddling groups from St. Louis,Kansas City, and Springfield would participate. Phone number was included for more information.

No specific reports from the President, VP, or float director.

      Old Business

Open Pool class at Mehlville High School starting in November.

MWA Championship Races – As always, we will need lots of volunteers for the races. Our new race director is Aldera Henderson.

MWA whitewater clinic – JoJo Newbold is clinic coordinator again this year. Clinic dates are April 18-19, 2020. The club is looking to sponsor new instructors, and will reimburse those instructors over time if they participate/lead classes at the clinic. This time, we will also assist existing instructors who need to get recertified with those expenses. Looking to hold the classes and recertification the week after the races and in time for the 2020 clinic. If you are interested, contact JoJo.

Right now, the club is well-situated in funds, and we are looking to sponsor other groups involved with whitewater, river access, etc. Some groups to be considered are the SLU canoe/kayak club, American Rivers, American Whitewater, and there could be others.

      New Business

Christmas party 2019 – Last year was held at Center Ice Brewery. After some discussion, it was decided that we would go back to Llewlyns in Webster Groves. Club would pay for initial appetizers but other food/drinks would be on members.

St. Louis Outdoor Expo – Dates and locations were changing this year. It looks like there are already four paddling groups involved, and the available space is only 10×10. We will look to be involved next year.

Stout’s Creek – There is some barb wire fence across Stout’s Creek. Please be mindful of that, and be careful. Some discussion followed about the legality of the fence and difficulty of getting it removed. Land owner was adamant about not removing it, and local attorney was backing the land owner. It was suggested that we look into contacting American Whitewater for help. Also possibly contact Chris Kelly.

pool slalom – To be held February 9 at Mehlville High School pool, probably starting around 9 or 10 a.m.

Throwing rope class – Would like to have a rope throwing class before the races, particularly for safety personnel. John B. will get together with Scott B. and Dale D. to see what we can do.

      Meeting adjourned at 8:08 p.m.
