From what I see, most of the rivers are really low? Is there anything at all that would be worth my time to check out that’s near by? New to white water kayaking so prob not more than a III.

Hey Kyle. Welcome to MO.
Yes everything is really low and unless we get a few inches of rain at once then the St. Francis comes up for a day or two. Our season won’t start until Nov/Dec. Some of us drive to the Ocoee occasionally and then quite a few of us meet up at GAF at the Nantahala at the end of Sept.
The gauge at the top of the page will show the St. Francis when its runnable. You can also monitor the following link. It needs to be 3ft or more. Right now it’s about a foot too low.

Here is a vid of the Saint. https://youtu.be/UVWvAZwegQU
Castor will come up rarely if it rains hard. It’s a fun little run that you can do laps on.

Hi All! I too am new to St Louis. Moved from WV where the New River Gorge is Always runnable! (even when it’s 2′ low on AW site) I hope to get on the St Francis with some water. I am a IV ish boater and usually just available on weekends, unless it’s a must do and can burn a vacation day! I also bike road and mtn and would like to meet up with the Tuesday evening crowd soon. I’ll keep a close watch! – Kevin

New boaters should not do the Chain without someone experienced with the area. There has been one whitewater death at the Chain of Rocks already. Meet up with someone who’s done it before, and follow standard whitewater safety common sense. And have fun.
