Folks – we received info from the Coast Guard Auxilary about a free seminar coming up. Although we are probably not in the “at risk group”, since we all wear PFDs, it is still good to spread the word widely. Here is the info:
To the St. Louis Paddle Craft Community:
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a FREE Paddle Craft Seminar on
Saturday 5 August at the Thornhill Branch – St Louis Public Library from
2:15 to 4:15 pm.
This Seminar was developed in cooperation with the American Canoe Association
because eight out of every ten boaters who drowned were using vessels less than
21 feet in length.
One of the Auxiliary’s Recreational Boating Safety jobs is to educate those in smaller
non-motorized vessels, i.e. paddle craft, kayaks and canoes. 85% of those who drown in
a boating accident are not wearing a life jacket.
