FIRECRACKER RACE is coming soon, Saturday July 4th. Race will be over by early afternoon so you have plenty of time to travel and enjoy your evening plans. The race is being held on the Mississippi River, launching and finishing at Lincoln Shield access, across from the Alton IL river front.
This will be a 3 mile looped race course (slack water, not in the main channel) …with family able to see you the entire time you are on the water.
- 12 miles for canoe or kayak
- 3 miles for SUP
There will be a carbon fiber wing paddle awarded to the first military veteran in on the canoe and kayak race AND a carbon SUP paddle to the first military veteran in on the SUP race (thanks to http://www.rpc3.com). Awards for each division and a raffle for another carbon fiber wing paddle (Thanks to Kayak Trader http://www.kayaktrader.com).
Also…Military Veterans are eligible to get their registration fund back (you still need to register for the race) AND there will be a fun 1/2 mile youth race to be held after the main events are over. This is a fantastic location, with tons of parking and space to hang out for the 4th of July…. and because the current is not really a major issue…this race is family friendly for kids and others to fuss around, cool off in the water and mess around in boats after the race (your chance to try to keep a skinny surfski upright or try out an outrigger canoe or Stand Up Paddle board!)
The race is to raise funds for the continued expansion of the
Mississippi River Water Trail
….a good cause. For a LOT more information and to register for this race, visit the race web site:
